Summary
The author - a poet and academic of Italian origin - recounts her bilingual education in Lima and her educational trips to Italy, to Florence. A first experience in the 1970s, characterised by a focus on Italian art, culture and language, was followed by one in the 1990s, during which she devoted herself mainly to translation. Gazzolo speaks about her relationship with Italian poetry and the origins of her family, until revealing what gave rise to two of her main books of poetry: Cabo de las tormentas and Cuaderno de ultramar.

Presentation of Ana María Gazzolo
Ana María Gazzolo was born in Lima in 1951 to a family of Italian origin. She studied Literature in Lima and Florence and holds a PhD in Peruvian and Latin American Literature from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. She is a poet, translator from Italian and academic. Her poetic works include Contra tiempo y distancia (Lima, 1978), Cabo de las tormentas (1990) and Arte de la noche (1997). She is the author of the translation of the volume of poems by Umberto Saba, Casa y campo. Trieste y una mujer (1998) and editor of Raúl Deustua's Sueño de ciegos. Obra reunida (2015). In 2004, under the pseudonym of Felice Ianua, she published Cuaderno de ultramar, in which she gives voice to Carlo Felice, an ancestor from Genoa who was the first to arrive in Peru at the beginning of the last century.
